Firefox
A popular web browser, second only to Windows Internet Explorer in global popularity. Firefox is an open-source application, and can be downloaded for free. Firefox can run on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and is also compatible with other Unix-like operating systems.
Firefox is one of 5 common web browsers currently used around the world. About 20%-30% of the global population uses Firefox (including Mozilla Firefox 3) as their preferred Web browser.
Mozilla Firefox was developed by the Mozilla Corporation in 2004, and is responsible for Windows Internet Explorer's loss of a large portion of the web browser market. Prior to Firefox's release, Windows Internet Explorer held up to 99% of the global web browser market, a percentage that has steadily declined as Firefox has gained in popularity.
Web browsers are a type of software installed on a computer that enables Internet users to view and navigate the Internet. Other common web browsers include Windows Internet Explorer (or IE, the most popular web browser, which currently holds 55% - 70% of the web browser market share), Google Chrome (which holds less than 2% of the web browser market share), Apple Safari (holding about 8% of the web browser market share, including a significant amount of the iPhone market), and Opera (holding 1% or less of the web browser market share).
Mozilla Firefox is often abbreviated as Fx, fx, or FF.
